Eye Lounge is pleased to show Extrapolations, a new exhibition of paintings by Tawny Kerr, a member of the downtown Phoenix collective.

Tawny Kerr presents Extrapolations, a series of new work, in her third and final exhibition as a member of the eye lounge collective. This body of paintings in oil and acrylic draws upon flawed and incomplete satellite imagery, primarily focusing on coastal Antarctica. Patchworked images of cold glacier, exposed peaks, indistinct blurs, and sinewy currents dotted with glittering ice break down from literal representation into complete abstraction. The works are paired with found poems and phrases generated with the aid of predictive text functions, playing with notions of beauty in the unknown and unpredictable within our technology at a time when it often feels no stone has been left unturned. As the works push and pull between boundaries of the known and unknown, the series becomes a meditation upon longing, exploration, and the tendency of infatuation to fill in gaps in knowledge with the fantastic.
